Tasks & Rules

Creative constraints such as tasks and instructions often shape Katja’s work, both in performance and writing. Rule structures, directives and instructions restrain the artist’s choice and potentially bring something unforeseen and unpredictable to the creative process, which Katja has experimented with on s number of recent projects.

Creative constraints are also at the core of Katja’s practice as an educator, and task-led activities are a means to conceive and compose performance both in her work at Goldsmiths and elsewhere.
